QUEEN’S PARK – Erie-Lincoln MPP Tim Hudak spoke in favour of Stoney Creek MPP Jennifer Mossop's Private Member’s Bill today to proclaim the third Wednesday of February as Lincoln Alexander Day in Ontario’s public schools. The second reading of the Bill received unanimous support from MPPs in the House this afternoon. In a speech from the Assembly floor, Hudak congratulated Mossop on her idea to honour one of Hamilton's and Ontario’s most prolific politicians.

BEAMSVILLE - Tim Hudak, MPP for Erie-Lincoln, called on the Minister of Agriculture today to provide funding for Niagara beekeepers, who are suffering through financial hardships following an unprecedented decline in the honeybee population. Some beekeepers in Niagara are reporting losses of up to 90 per cent of their hives. Although honey is a major industry in itself, Ontario honeybees play a more significant role in pollinating a number of fruit and vegetable crops across Canada and the United States.

QUEEN’S PARK - One day following a protest of Caledonia residents at Queen’s Park, Premier Dalton McGuinty and Progressive Conservative leader John Tory reacted to the resident’s call for a resolution to the dispute in decidedly different ways. While the Premier focused his efforts yesterday on banning the social networking website, Facebook, from government offices, Tory addressed the need for one rule of law for everyone in Ontario in a speech to the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards Convention.

Tim Hudak, MPP for Erie-Lincoln, called on Premier Dalton McGuinty today to ensure the voices of concerned Beamsville residents are heard before a decision is made to build a composting facility near Zimmerman Road and Yonge Street. The Region of Niagara is considering a proposal from a private company to build a 40,000-tonne compost facility in Beamsville that might eventually process all of Niagara’s organic waste. In a letter to the Premier, which was copied to Regional Council, Hudak urged McGuinty to take the resident’s concerns about safety and the environment to heart.

QUEEN'S PARK - In the spirit of the Stanley Cup playoffs, ecological watchdog Environmental Defence handed out trading cards to Members of Provincial Parliament at a reception Tuesday. But instead of penguins, sharks and mighty ducks, Environmental Defence handed out cards of endangered species native to Ontario to set the stage for the second reading of the new Endangered Species Act.

QUEEN'S PARK - Tim Hudak, MPP for Erie-Lincoln, called on Premier Dalton McGuinty again today to explain a $50-million grant the Liberal government gave to Magna International Inc. - one of Canada's richest corporations. Hudak first raised the issue at Queen's Park yesterday, asking the Premier to explain the grant and whether he can guarantee the $50 million, to be used to build the Stronach Centre facility - will pay off in additional manufacturing jobs. Hudak reiterated his point in a letter to Premier McGuinty today.
