Confederation
In 1867 Welland Riding consisted of several townships and villages situated in what today is known as Port Colborne, Fort Erie, Niagara Falls and Welland. Welland Riding's boundaries remained essentially unchanged until 1914.

1914: The Division
The Representation Act of 1914 saw Welland Riding incorporate the Township of Wainfleet and lose present-day Fort Erie. Fort Erie residents now cast their votes in the riding of Niagara Falls. These boundaries remained essentially unchanged until 1966.

1966: Reunited Again
The Representation Act of 1966 formed the basis of present-day Niagara South. The Electoral District of Welland South made up the Townships of Bertie, Humberstone, Pelham and Wainfleet, the Towns of Fort Erie and Port Colborne and the Village of Crystal Beach. The riding would undergo a couple minor boundary changes in later years, and would be be renamed Erie Riding in time for the 1975 general election and, a decade later, Niagara South

1999: From Lake-to-Lake
The 1999 Ontario Election was fought under new riding boundaries, as the number of constituencies in Ontario was reduced from 130 to 103. The new riding of Erie-Lincoln, brought together six municipalities stretching from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie: Lincoln, West Lincoln, Dunnville, Wainfleet, Port Colborne and Fort Erie.
